Help or Hinder?
Technology plays a large role on how we communicate and how it prevents us from communicating. Many people see technology as a helpful resource when it comes to connecting with other in the digital world. In contrast to this view, what people are not seeing is how it is not allowing us to connect to people in person. According to the article, 4 Technology Trends Disrupting How We Communicate, the author explains that adults spend about 20-28 hours a week on social media . With that being said, it makes me wonder how many of these hours are spend with family and friends also in the room with them while they are not social media. It is becoming an issue that people are more tuned into their phones and social media than they are living their life without them. Newman also states that 91% of people sleep within arm’s reach of their phone. Doing this, is not healthy for a person because it does not allow them to disconnect from the digital world. Technology has made numerous advancements for today's society but it has also altered expectations that people need to be and feel connected with the digital world at all times. By having technology all around us at any given time it has influenced our social culture by making it easier to communicate with other digitally but the drawback it that it often times has us not connecting as well with other while we are physically with them.
